And now, Open Knowledge !

Any one out there depressed you couldnt get an education at a reputed IIT or IISc ? Or for that matter, foreign world class universities like the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT) or Stanford? Wait no more ! The concept of Open courseware coming up now is ensuring that the word 'Open' can be applied not only to software or hardware, but even academic knowledge.

Here are a few links for Open Courseware from some of the topmost universities in the world ! Apart from normal Engineering topics, even as diverse topics as languages, pure physics, modern physics (relativity, quantum mechanics), astronomy, geography, politics and humanities have been covered.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology : http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/home/home/index.htm
For specifically the Audio-Video courses, you should follow
http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/av/index.htm

The MIT ones are particularly good because of the video lectures available.. some of them are really great courses.

http://see.stanford.edu/see/courses.aspx

University of California Berkely : http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php

Yale University : http://oyc.yale.edu/

And last but not least, some of the best courses I've seen are from our very own

Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institute of Science Bangalore : http://www.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=nptelhrd

All of the IIT courses are Video lectures and worth a watch if you're looking out for some course to learn more.

(Ofcourse, those of you who have escaped from the academic field and are enjoying life in your respective jobs now.. I think you'd better be looking at some sites like http://www.watch-movies.net/ :) )

Was a visitor of mit's ocw 2 years back for a week ;) went through some quantum mechanics which wasn't to be a quantum of solace then some literature, tried somethings on nanotechnology, biotechnology and then it was quits....:(
I forgot what I was searching for back then....but my wonderful memory is not going to believe that I could have forgotten something :D
What was I searching for? :-?

I'm a registered user of NPTEL scheme of IITs when it was launched in 2004 or 2005. They had great resources for a student in those days, i stopped going to the site the day i got my job :).. Haven't seen what's cooking there nowadays.

Thanks for the links :). Good find

Open Course Material - as the world moves to near-complete open information sharing, it is always welcome. OCW was on my first ever draft saved from my IITM email address - brings memories. Strangely, NPTEL also does the same. While I acknowledge that it is a noble effort, I doubt the veracity of the material available, as one of those tapes was played to us in one of our classes, and what it set off is incredible (and more)! (Apologies for low resolution of the image - it's from a cellphone camera)

haha.. mr. ghajini, it is easy to get carried away by the variety of the courses there that u forget what u were searching for.. i went searching for signal processing but ended up seeing linear algebra :)

@abhi
you probably wont feel the need to keep learning wen u're out of the academic sphere :)

Ya i agree man.. its too much.. u feel like watching and reading everything.. i also remember reading quantum mechanics and some biology stuff... :) nevertheless its there in NTU also, but i dunno if its open ware.. but the lectures are webcast i guess(At least for the under grads...), but its there in NUS...

Hari - the first image is a unique snapshot of a prof showing an NPTEL video featuring himself in class. We had to deal with twice the trouble that day - KVM called it "Dr. Evil and Mini-me". The second image is a caricature of the same prof :-D

I've been using OCW of MIT for quite sometime now! It provided me with a better understanding of the subjects taught at college... Really cool one!

Just checked out all your links. All seem equally fantastic! Thanks a bunch, man!

@naren
lol yea giving ur time to hear and pursue the courses offered is the biggest problem with seeing the open courseware.. so much knowledge out there, i wish i could learn it all..

@mahesh
lol man.. now that wud have been a sight..

Hari Vishnu said...

@Hari
if i knew abt OCW back in college i wudve surely tried some of them instead of attending the lectures man :)

@Wetfingers
lol.. I see ur latest post is on the guy too.. seems like word about that video is spreading fast..

Online physics courses have not yet caught up with the new physics of RQT (Relative Quantum Topological) function networking. That type of nanoscale analysis generates atomic models by integration of relativistic Lorentz-Einstein transforms for time, mass, and energy into the quantum wavefunctions for frequency and wavelength. The result is a GT integral atomic function which generates the 3D picoyoctometric image as an animated, interactive data point map. The full presentation of this spacetime bounded series expansion atomic model, with discussions, graphics, essays, the new book The Crystalon Door, and commercial infotools for nanotechnical energy field modeling may be found at | http://www.symmecon.com |. TCD conforms to the unopposed motion of disclosure in U.S. District (NM) Court of 04/02/01 titled The Solution to the Equation of Schrodinger, and U.S. copyright TXu1-266-788.
